Welcome to de Bretton Calendar Girls
My family is like so many others. It is not unique in being touched by Cancer. The disease claimed my father, James in 1997 aged just 57. My brother, Philip was fortunately cured of it in 2004 at 43. My wife’s mother, Joyce was not so lucky. She was taken by it in her 40’s.
There is one real life story about Cancer that turned out to do so much good and has given hope to so many people. It is the story of a group of Ladies from a Women’s Institute in North Yorkshire that set out to raise enough money for a new comfy sofa in the waiting room of a Hospital. Through their incredible endeavours they have banked over £1.3M for Leukaemia Research!
In 2006 Marmadukes Hotel hosted a garden party for the Calendar Girls. There was such a warm response by everyone involved who was able to hear the Girls story first hand, that the management teams at our various de Bretton businesses decided to set up our own fund for the Calendar Girls continuing efforts to find a cure for leukaemia. Over the next 5 years we’re hoping we can raise £50,000.
Today our fund stands at over £6,000, so we’re on our way!
Best wishes
